Businesses and similar entities rely on checks to open and close transactions, as well as to pay and accept payment for goods and services rendered. If the mode of payment is not amply protected, scum artists can simply devise ways to alter the integrity checks issued. Magnetic Ink Character Recognition or MICR coding came about as a security measure against the fraudulent alteration of issued checks. Banks and financial institutions recognize MICR technology as the foolproof method of securing the integrity and validity of check payments. Thus, when a chemical alteration is attempted, a bright red stain appears through the face of the check that makes the instrument ineligible for payment.
MICR Laser Printer Toner Cartridges
The security measure was first adapted by laser printer OEMs with the release of MICR laser printer toner cartridges. Toner formulation for MICR cartridges is engineered in such a way as to allow MICR characters (words and figures) to permeate through the check and its back. MICR technology is not solely limited to OEM cartridges, but also on remanufactured toner cartridges.
Checks printed using MICR laser printer toner cartridges have become standard in the business
community. Even the manufacturers of remanufactured toner cartridges have now ventured the supply channel. Well, this can really be expected considering that the cost of the alternative MICR toner product is way below that of the OEM.
Remanufactured MICR Toner Cartridges
A remanufactured toner cartridge is a dead ringer to the OEM. Literally, a toner empty cartridge is a dead OEM toner cartridge brought back to life by way of remanufacturing. Remanufacturing involves the expert dismantling of the cartridge unit with the still serviceable parts retained and the defective parts replaced. New toner with magnetic ink character recognition capabilities is then infused into the overhauled cartridge. Thereafter, exhaustive testing follows prior to its shipment, distribution and resale.
In terms of quality, OEM magnetic ink character recognition technology as infused into toner, is practically similar (but not a clone in abeyance to the existing copyright laws) to the MICR toner loading remanufactured toner cartridges. Obviously both MICR toner products go through similar manufacturing processes so the end result will not show any marked difference. And given a cost figure that is almost rock bottom, interested businesses will definitely patronize the product that will substantially reduce office printing expenditures.
Remember that checks issued for payment are an integral part of a business transaction. So always use a MICR laser printer toner cartridge when printing your checks to provide security to the deal and protect company interests.
